Sedation for Nervous PatientsOasis Dental Clinic MarbellaAre you a nervous patient? Do you feel unable to cope with a visit to the dentist but know that you have many dental problems that need to be fixed?
Conscious IV sedation may well be the answer for you. At the Oasis Dental Clinic in Marbella we pride ourselves on being a friendly, professional team who listen and deal with your fears and concerns in a gentle and re-assuring manner. For those who need some additional help to cope with your visits we also offer conscious sedation to relax you at the time of treatment. Most people find that this is a pleasant and acceptable way of experiencing dentistry.|
For every new patient, at the initial examination appointment, Dr. King will go through your medical and dental history and do a comprehensive examination of your mouth. She may also need to take some radiographs. Following this a treatment plan can be discussed and agreed upon. The sedation fee is priced separately depending on length and numbers of sessions. This will all be printed to include the full estimated costs of treatment and timing and number of visits. You will also be given some more information about the sedation process including instructions and consent. Of course you will have the opportunity to ask any questions at this initial consultation.
At the next agreed visit Dr. Bryn will be on hand to administer the sedation agent through a small injection in the back of the hand. Once you feel drowsy and sufficiently relaxed, local anaesthetic will be administered to numb your mouth and the dental work will commence. During the procedure you will feel peaceful and largely unaware of what is going on; in fact many people do not remember anything about their treatment. You will however remain awake during the procedure and be able to respond to verbal communication. At the end of the session you will be allowed to recover until you are fit enough to be discharged home with your escort.
Generally as you do not lose consciousness this procedure is considered extremely safe for any patient in good general health. Apart from memory loss afterwards you may feel quite tired and possibly have a mild headache similar to a “jet-lag” feeling. However the majority of patients recover quickly and with few side effects.
