Comprehensive Oral Examination and Consultation
OASIS DENTAL CLINIC MARBELLA
It may seem obvious but starting at the beginning is always the very best place to start! Therefore before embarking on any type of treatment we always conduct an initial thorough examination first.*. This ensures that you receive the best dental care and advice tailored to your needs and wants and we can discuss and appropriately plan any subsequent treatment for your long term dental health.
In addition, many people fail to realize that our mouths may be a reflection of/or be related to other conditions of our general health. E.g poorly controlled/ undiagnosed diabetics may experience frequent mouth ulcers.
Here at the Oasis Dental Clinic in Marbella we adopt a holistic approach to your dental care and plan treatment accordingly. The initial examination will include a thorough examination of:
- Jaw joints and muscles of mastication (can be related to tension headaches)
- Soft tissues : tongue, roof of the mouth etc including Screening for oral cancer
- Gum health including identifying at risk areas and measuring bone loss
- Occlusion (how your teeth meet together i.e bite)
- All hard tissues i.e teeth and existing fillings
Possible additional investigations at this first visit may include :
- Radio graphs (or X-rays) as many diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen by visual examination alone.
X-rays may reveal for example small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings); infections in the bone; severity of periodontal (gum) disease and tumours.
Finding and treating dental problems at an early stage can save time, money and unnecessary discomfort. If you have a hidden tumour, radiographs may even help save your life.
We use digital radiography which has been shown to reduce radiation dosage to the patient by up to 70% as compared to conventional film X-rays:
- Use of an intra-oral camera to clearly show you areas which are of concern.
- Impression taking for study models: usually for planning more complicated treatment including cosmetic makeovers.
On the models we create a perfect smile, in wax, for your approval.
Once we have planned to stop disease progression and prevent its return then we can proceed to carry out any cosmetic improvements with confidence.
If would like additional information on oral examinations & consulations please do not hesitate to contact our dental surgery in Marbella.
*This is with the exception of emergency visits where we need to relieve pain or otherwise treat an urgent problem
